Governor Gavin Newsom Announces Plans to Fully Reopen California on June 15

Governor Gavin Newsom has announced that California will fully reopen its economy on June 15 if current trends continue to hold.

What’s Happening:

  • Governor Gavin Newsom held a press conference today with the announcement that California will plan to fully reopen its economy on June 15.
  • ABC7 reports that the announcement will have California move away from the color tier system that regulates county by county and bring the entire state together at one phase.
  • The state will fully reopen as long as vaccine supply continues to be sufficient for California residents who wish to get the shot and if hospitalization rates remain low.
  • Although the phrasing “fully reopen” was used, it was not specified what it will exactly mean as the governor said business could reopen with risk reduction measures in place and that the mask mandate will not be lifted.
  • The California Department of Public Health will continue to monitor and will have the right to move the June 15 date if necessary.
  • Since more information is needed about what the “fully reopen” phrasing will mean for the state, we do not know how this will impact the Disneyland Resort at this time.
