It has been reported that the International Brotherhood of Teamsters will be able to keep control of Local 385 after its leader was removed from complaints of mismanagement from Disney performers.
What’s Happening:
- The AP has reported that the International Brotherhood of Teamsters will continue to keep control of Local 385 after U.S. District Carlos Mendoza refused to end the trusteeship.
- Local 385 represents thousands of workers, including performers at the Walt Disney World Resort. About a third of the members are Disney Cast Members.
- Disney performers were upset when leaders made a deal with Disney World officials to cut around 20 workers from being covered by the union without consulting members. They also state leaders were unresponsive to grievances by members. Since then, more than 500 members left the union with others signing petitions threatening to leave.
- The International Brotherhood of Teamsters took over control in June 2019 after a leader was removed because of the complaints of mismanagement from Disney performers. The union is planning to hold an election this summer for new officers.
