Disney and Pixar have announced 22 vs. Earth, a new short film based on the film Soul coming to Disney+.
What’s Happening:
- 22 vs. Earth is a new short film coming soon to Disney+ based on the Disney and Pixar film Soul.
- In the short, we’ll find out why 22 has it out against Earth in a prequel that goes back before 22 met Joe Gardner.
- The new short will have Tina Fey reprise the role of soul 22, voicing the sarcastic soul.
- 22 vs. Earth is directed by Kevin Nolting, who has been at Pixar for 21 years. He says the team talked about why a new soul wouldn’t want to live on Earth, but ultimately didn’t place it in the movie. With the new short, they’ll explore the reasoning.
More on 22 vs. Earth:
- “In the short, 22 defies the rules of The Great Before and refuses to go to Earth, enlisting a gang of five other new souls in her attempt at rebellion. However, as her cohorts' activities lead to unexpected results, 22’s subversive plot may actually lead to a surprising revelation about the meaning of life.”
What They’re Saying:
- Kevin Nolting, Director: “I think the new souls make the short so fun—the contrast of their pure innocence and delight with the cynical expectations of 22. The other new souls are what 22 once was before she took another path—purely innocent, blank slates to be guided by the counselors in their mostly uneventful journey to the earth portal. 22 sees an opening in that and attempts to guide them herself into her way of thinking.”
You can catch the new short film 22 vs. Earth on Friday, April 30 on Disney+.
