While there was much ado about the goings on during the grand reopening of Disneyland Park today, some little things flew under the radar, and one of those was how beautiful the themed walls flanking the entrance to Tomorrowland look.
What’s Happening:
- The themed walls at the entrance to Tomorrowland have seemingly received a beautiful iridescent paint job that makes them brilliantly illuminate when hit by the light of the California Sun.
- In the picture below, you can see how the wall still retains the classic silver in the shade.
- Back in 2019, it was revealed that Disneyland was getting ready to welcome guests to Tomorrowland with a new entrance, getting rid of most of the entry installed in the New Tomorrowland of 1998 as part of Project Stardust, which featured enhancements throughout the park covering everything from beautification of some areas to maximizing guest flow in others. In the case of Tomorrowland’s entrance, maybe a bit of both.
- When planning out this new entrance, Imagineers wanted to open up the space to allow smoother guest flow and improve access to the land. All of the rockwork (which many fans called “The French Fries”) has been removed and replaced with open grass, except for one area still receiving some work and features the concept art for the new entrance displayed.
- Imagineers took inspiration from past Tomorrowland entrances, like the one for the first “new” Tomorrowland in 1967 which featured the Googie architecture that had become representative of the Space Age.
