Hulu continues to grow the cast of their upcoming limited series The Dropout. The streamer set a slate of actors, including William H. Macy, Laurie Metcalf and more, for recurring roles in the series, according to Deadline.
- Hulu has set a slate of fantastic actors for recurring roles in The Dropout. This group includes:
- William H. Macy
- Laurie Metcalf
- Elizabeth Marvel
- Utkarsh Ambudkar
- Kate Burton
- Stephen Fry
- Michel Gill
- Michael Ironside
- Bill Irwin
- Josh Pais
- All of these actors will join Amanda Seyfried in the new limited Hulu original series from Liz Meriwether, Searchlight Television and Disney Television Studios’ 20th Television.
Their roles:
- Macy is set to play Richard Fuisz, an ex-CIA agent and an inventor of biomedical devices. A friend of the Holmes family, he is initially upset when he learns that Elizabeth has started a medical tech startup without consulting him, and his resentment and obsession will have serious ramifications for Elizabeth and Theranos.
- Metcalf will play Phyllis Gardner, a scientist, doctor and successful entrepreneur. As a woman in a predominately male world, she has been through the ringer and has had to confront sexism her whole career. She will ultimately be among those responsible for bringing the truth about Elizabeth and Theranos to light.
- Marvel will portray Noel Holmes, Elizabeth Holmes’ mother.
- Ambudkar plays Rakesh Madhava, one of the first employees at Theranos.
- Burton is Rochelle Gibbons.
- Fry will be Ian Gibbons, the brilliant head of chemistry at Theranos.
- Gill plays Chris Holmes, Elizabeth Holmes’ father and hero.
- Ironside plays Don Lucas, one of the first venture capitalists to invest in Theranos.
- Irwin is Channing Robertson, head of Chemical Engineering/professor at Stanford and an early cheerleader of Elizabeth Holmes.
- Pais portrays Wade Maquelon, the CFO of Walgreens. Skeptical about Theranos, he thinks start-ups are risky, but he doesn’t want to be left in the dust if Elizabeth goes to a competitor.
About The Dropout:
- The Dropout is a Hulu limited series inspired by the ABC News podcast on the rise and fall of Elizabeth Holmes and her company, Theranos. Holmes was said to be the next Steve Jobs until she found herself facing criminal charges when technology meant to revolutionize healthcare didn’t work and put patients at risk.
- The series is set to be executive produced by the podcast’s host/creator Rebecca Jarvis and producers Taylor Dunn and Victoria Thompson.
- Production is scheduled to begin this summer.
