A new video shared by Playstation takes a look at the improvements made by Ubisoft to their Snowdrop engine in order to bring the worlds of Pandora to life in Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora.
What’s Happening:
- Playstation has shared a video showcasing the technology behind Ubisoft’s Snowdrop engine as it is used in the new game, Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora.
- Technical Art Director Sebastian Lindoff said that in the past, the engine has been used to create city skylines but needed to push the Snowdrop engine to the edge to create the natural world of Pandora.
- The engine isn’t just limited to the ground level, as players will hop aboard a Banshee and take flight into the skies above Pandora, so a new volumetric cloud system was added to improve the quality of the sky.
- Pandora is also known for its amazing bioluminescence at night, and the engine also incorporated a new system for raytracing, allowing for real light to reflect making the planet more vibrant and more realistic.
- The game has provided the biggest leap for the Snowdrop engine so that players can truly be immersed in the Avatar experience with this new generation of hardware.
- Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora is a first person, action-adventure game developed by Massive Entertainment – a Ubisoft studio, in collaboration with Lightstorm Entertainment and Disney.
- Built using the latest iteration of the Snowdrop engine, and developed exclusively for the new generation of consoles and PC, Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora brings to life the alluring world of Pandora with all of its beauty and danger in an immersive, open world experience.
- In this new, standalone story, play as a Na’vi and embark on a journey across the Western Frontier, a never-before-seen part of Pandora. Explore a living and reactive world inhabited by unique creatures and new characters, and push back the formidable RDA forces that threaten it.
- Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora is set for release in 2022.
