General Hospital alum Stuart Damon has passed away at the age of 84, according to Deadline.
What’s Happening:
- Stuart Damon, best known for playing Chief of Staff Dr. Alan Quartermaine in the long-running ABC daytime Soap Opera General Hospital, has died at the age of 84.
- According to his son, Christopher Damon, his father had been dealing with renal failure for the past few years, adding that his time on the General Hospital set was “his favorite place to be. He loved playing Alan, and was always so appreciative of that role and that job. It was his passion.”
- Damon first showed up on General Hospital in 1977, and stayed even past his character’s death in 2007. Though his character had died, he still appeared occasionally as the ghost of Dr. Alan Quartermaine.
- He also portrayed the character in Port Charles, the spin-off of General Hospital that ran from 1997 until 2003.
- Many of his co-stars and colleagues reacted to the news on social media, with General Hospital Executive Producer Frank Valentini tweeting “On behalf of everyone at #GH, I want to extend my deepest condolences to Stuart Damon’s family and all who loved him. Stuart was an absolute legend of our industry and he’ll be sorely missed.”
- Amber Tamblyn, who starred on the soap with Damon in her younger years, posted her thoughts, saying “Broken hearted to hear of the passing of Stuart Damon. He played my adopted dad on General Hospital for 7 years and he was the most kind, wonderful, loving, supportive person. He always made me laugh and made me feel safe on set. I love you, Stewy. Rest well now, my friend.”
- Nancy Lee Grahn, who played Alexis Davis Jacks on the show since the mid 90’s said: What a lovely, funny, talented Prince of a man. He truly was Charming. What a pleasure it was to work with his iconic self. Condolences to his family. RIP Stuie.”
