ESPN has announced the FDNY vs NYPD Hockey game will be returning to Madison Square Garden with a live broadcast for the first time on ESPN2 and the ESPN app on Thursday, September 9.
What’s Happening:
- After being postponed last year, the FDNY vs NYPD Hockey game is a go this year at Madison Square Garden with a live broadcast on ESPN2 and the ESPN App on Thursday, September 9 at 8:00 pm ET.
- Tickets from the previously scheduled April 4, 2020 game are being reissued with any open tickets being announced on social media.
- Proceeds from the game will benefit various charities including the Ray Pfeifer Foundation and the PBA Widows and Children’s Fund.
- The rivalry game goes back to 1973 when the Fire Department won the first matchup. The FDNY leads the all-time series with 25 wins to the NYPD’s 18 wins and two draws.
- Before the game begins, both teams will commemorate the 20th anniversary of 9/11 in a special ceremony where they will honor those lost in the attacks and all members who have passed from 9/11 related illnesses. Firefighters and Police Officers lost in the line of duty over the past two years will also be remembered.
