New mannequins have appeared at the Disneyland Resort in the World of Disney that are indicative of the new diversity efforts of the Walt Disney Company and the addition of the fifth key: Inclusion.
What’s Happening:
- New mannequins have been spotted at the World of Disney store in the Downtown Disney District at the Disneyland Resort, and they reflect different skin tones as part of an ongoing commitment to diversity and inclusion.
- The Disneyland Resort is excited to begin introducing mannequins that represent the diversity of its guests and cast members, and the resort has promised that the mannequins are only the beginning, with more diversity efforts coming in the future.
- For over 50 years, Disney has utilized a simple set of prioritized operating guidelines for Cast Members known as “The 4 Keys.” A fifth key of Inclusion has been added as a way to make it clear that Disney values all people and they are appreciated for their unique life experiences, perspectives, and cultures.
- The Inclusion Key was the result of 2019 brainstorming sessions with Disney’s Business Employee Resource Groups that were focused on inclusivity and belonging.
- The Inclusion Key can be seen in action through various initiatives:
- New and Updated Experiences: Soul of Jazz, Jungle Cruise modifications, new Princess and the Frog attraction.
- Inclusive Products: Adaptive Halloween costumes, Soul collection, Rainbow merchandise
- Mentorship: Disney Dreamers Academy, Ongoing partnerships with HBCUs
