- The official Twitter account of The Goldbergs broke the news today that the 9th season premiere will pay tribute to the classic film Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure.
- The ABC sitcom has had a tradition of opening its seasons with an episode themed to a classic 1980’s film since season 3.
- Past films used as a template for season openers have included Risky Business, The Breakfast Club, Weird Science, Sixteen Candles, Vacation and Airplane!
- At the TCA Summer Press Tour, Wendi McLendon-Covey (Beverly Goldberg, executive producer) shared that the season opener will also address the passing of George Segal and deal with where to spread Pops’ ashes.
- Bill and Ted returned for a third film in 2020 with Bill & Ted Face the Music.
- The Goldbergs is produced for ABC by Sony Television.
- Season 9 of The Goldbergs begins Wednesday, September 22nd in an ABC comedy lineup that also includes The Wonder Years, The Conners and Home Economics.
