According to Variety, Rogue One co-writer Tony Gilroy has been tapped to write the pilot of Disney+’s upcoming untitled Cassian Andor series.
What’s happening:
- The untitled Cassian Andor series being developed for Disney+ has tapped Tony Gilroy to write the pilot as well as direct several episodes.
- Gilroy is no stranger to Andor’s character having served as co-writer of the 2016 Star Wars standalone film, Rogue One, which introduced Andor to the universe.
- Gilroy will work with series showrunner Stephen Schiff.
- Disney has not yet announced an official premiere date, but the series is expected to debut in 2021 or year two of the streaming service.

- Gilroy is a screenwriter and director earning his first major writing credit for 1992’s The Cutting Edge.

- Variety notes that Gilroy was originally not credited for his screenwriting on Rogue One, however he earned it when he was brought on for “extensive reshoots.”
- He reportedly also worked with director Gareth Edwards on the reshoot edits.
About the series:
- Fans can follow along with the adventures of Cassian Andor in the early days the Rebellion as it rises up against the Empire. The series takes place prior to the events of Rogue One.
- Actor Diego Luna is attached to reprise his role as Andor along with Alan Tudyk as the droid K-2SO
More Disney+ and Star Wars:
- The new direct to consumer streaming service is launching on November 12, 2019.
- This day will also mark the premiere of the first ever live-action Star Wars series, The Mandalorian created by Disney Legend Jon Favreau, and starring Pedro Pascal (Game of Thrones) as the titular character.
- An Obi-Wan Kenobi series has also been announced for the streaming platform. Ewan McGregor and Kathleen Kennedy revealed the news at the D23 Expo this past Summer. McGregor will once again don the robes of the legendary Jedi Knight.
- Fans will also be able to stream all eight (currently released) films in the Star Wars Skywalker Saga which concludes this winter with Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker.
