ABC is reportedly developing a second spinoff to their popular comedy series black-ish, focused on a young version of Rainbow Johnson, according to TVLine.
- Rainbow, the matriarch of the Johnson family on black-ish, is played by Tracee Ellis Ross on the hit sitcom.
- The new, yet-to-be-titled series would be set in the 80s and would follow a 12-year old Rainbow.
- The young version of the character is described as “emotionally and intellectually brilliant but also clueless, confused and awkward.”
- The new series would also feature late-30s versions of Rainbow’s parents, who were previously played by Anna Deveare Smith and Beau Bridges on black-ish.
- An ABC spokesperson told TVLine that an upcoming episode of black-ish will be centered on Rainbow, but didn’t quite refer to the episode as a “spinoff pilot.”
- This new Rainbow-focused series would be the second spinoff of black-ish, after Freeform’s Zoey-focused grown-ish.
