Star Wars: The Force Awakens Already Earns a Prestigious Honor

If there wasn’t already enough buzz around Star Wars: The Force Awakens which opens this week, it was announced today that the film made the American Film Institute’s (AFI) list of the top 10 films of 2015.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, AFI actually postponed their voting meeting until critics had the chance to screen the seventh installment of the Star Wars saga earlier this week. AFI compiles both their top 10 film and TV shows each year, traditionally combining both Oscars bait with well-made mainstream hits. Disney also makes an appearance on the group’s TV side as ABC’s

The Force Awakens wasn’t the only Disney film to make the cut  — Pixar’s Inside Out and Dreamworks/Touchstone’s Bridge of Spies were also honored. On the TV side, ABC’s Black-ish was named one of the year’s 10 best shows and was the only comedy on the list.
