Top 19 Things LP Staff Members are Excited for in 2019
Happy New Year! If you’re just joining us, welcome — and if you’ve been following us for some time, welcome back. The Walt Disney Company has so many exciting things planned for 2019 and our staff decided that we should rank them in ascending order of what we’re most looking forward to this year. We won’t spoil the results, but yes, Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge made the list. If you don’t want to read the article, you can watch our three-ish minutes video recapping our list. H2O Glow Nights Returns to Typhoon Lagoon
The Toy Story gang is coming back to Typhoon Lagoon this summer for another series of H2O Glow Nights events. With the humans gone, the toys can enjoy playing at the water park all night long! Of course the event won’t be without supervision, but the toys don’t know that. Hang out with Partysaurus Rex, Buzz, Jessie, and Woody; ride your favorite waterslides or go for a swim; dance the night away; and enjoy speciality themed treats at this unique after hours offering.
Captain Marvel #HighterFurtherFaster Campaign
With Captain Marvel’s arrival just a few months away, Disney and Marvel have officially launched their new campaign. This special initiative celebrates the heroic woman and encourages fans of all ages and genders to share they will go #HigherFurtherFaster in 2019. Captain Marvel merchandise will start rolling out at various retailers including Disney Store and shopDisney. Additionally, fans aboard the Disney Magic will be the first to meet her during Marvel Day at Sea on the Disney Cruise Line. She’ll also be making appearances at Disneyland, Disneyland Paris, and Shanghai Disney Resorts.
Vacation Offers for Everyone!
This was the week for vacation offer announcements from the Mouse house. Both Disneyland and Walt Disney World presented guests will exciting savings on tickets, resort stays, and dining plans. But that’s not all, Southern California residents have their own ticket offer and so do Florida residents. Finally, active-duty and retired U.S. military members can choose between two discount offers at both domestic resorts throughout most of 2019.
New Details Revealed About Galaxy’s Edge
Regardless of where our staff placed Galaxy’s Edge on our top 19 of 2019 list, there is absolutely no doubt that this new land is the most anticipated offering coming to Disney parks. This week, Barron’s shared a lovely article about Galaxy’s Edge that revealed more details about the land and through storyline. The article discusses the new attractions and concepts surrounding the planet Batuu and how guests will fit into story.
Other Stories of Note
Disney releases Pandora: The World of Avatar soundtrack on Apple Music. If you just can’t get enough of Animal Kingdom’s Pandora, then you’re going to love this soundtrack. Featuring music from the land’s attractions—including Flight of Passage—fans can enjoy the magic from the comfort of their home.
D23 annual membership cost increases. This year marks the 10th anniversary of the Official Disney Fan Club and the first time ever that membership cost has been raised. Prices have gone up by a just under $1.75 per month and include a quarterly magazine, annual gifts, discounts for the 2019 D23 Expo, and more.
“Kevin” from Up! Is migrating to Disney’s Animal Kingdom. The beautiful and colorful bird that Wilderness Explorer, Russell, befriended in Paradise Falls is making a stop at Walt Disney World. No official date has been announces, but she’s expected to appear sometime in February.
The Little Mermaid 30th Anniversary Release. This animated classic will receive the Signature Collection treatment for its 30th Anniversary and will include a 4K digital release.
Slinky Dog Dash tails removed. Fans were a little shocked this week to discover the removal of Slinky’s tail on the popular rollercoaster. A Disney spokesperson has assured us that this is simply a precautionary measure and that they, “hope to have the tail wagging again shortly.”
