DWTS Recap: Dynamic Duos!

dwts-season-19-hed-2014

It was dynamic duos night on the show! Why no Beyonce and Jay-Z? Why no Bobbit couple?! (Too soon?) Either way, along with the themed dances, they will also hand out immunity and a dance off! Why was this not previously announced?! Whatever, at least the judges received a trip down the stairs. Onto the dances!

Lea and Artem were Bonnie and Clyde during their jazz routine. They brought in an acting coach to help them in their dance, but it just made Artem look like an idiot. A loveable idiot, however. They danced to my jam “Somethin’ Bad,” so that was nice. I loved it, as they both seemed the happiest they’ve ever been and most into it, translating into a fun dance. Julianne said it was dated, Len thought it was safe, and Bruno called her “Faye Danceaway” because he likes making as many movie references as possible always. Straight 8s from the judges.

Michael and Emma danced a foxtrot as Tarzan and Jane. The Disney version, of course, because any excuse to play Phil Collins is a good excuse. They descended from the rafters as if they were the king and queen of the ballroom. Honey, uh…no. He was just eh, as usual. Not much else to say. I can so though that his southern accent just makes me want to drink a lemonade in a rocking chair while quoting “Gone With The Wind.” Three 6s and a SEHVEN from Len.

Royal Couple dance to “Fancy” and I’m in love. MOVING ON!

Janel and Val danced one of the best contemporary, scratch that, routines period on the show, all while in the style of Romeo and Juliet. Their lifts were the most fluid I’ve ever seen on the show and it was spectacular. Bruno said it was ambitious and gorgeous, while Carrie Ann said it was Val’s best choreography ever (and most sexual tension Janel and Val have had ever too…HEY-O!). Erin got goosebumps from the dance…and Val’s abs. #Truth. A perfect score from the judges.

Tommy and Peta danced a paso doble as the legendary Johnny and June Carter Cash (Kudos to the producers for choosing these country figures as a duo, much credit to them). Tommy loves Johnny, so very in tune with his “character,” the most all season. Wasn’t his best, wasn’t his worst. Carrie Ann said he was a step behind the beat the whole dance, but loves their partnership. Everyone, without saying it, says that Peta is what Tommy needs in this competition. Len called him a hot dog. How did we go 4 weeks without this man?! In the skybox, Tommy once again compliments Peta, leading to Peta tears, leading to me wanting to be her BFF. Two 6s, from Carrie Ann and Bruno, and two SEHVENs.

Sadie and Mark danced a contemporary routine as Adam and Eve, because Sadie can’t dance anything without relating to the bible. The dance was incredibly detailed, gorgeously danced, and my favorite dance of the season. One of those routines that I will forever remember, even though they had an awful song. Julianne sees a maturity in Sadie and Bruno says she has come a long way. Two 9s, from Carrie Ann and Len, and two 10s.

Alfonso and Witney danced a cha cha as Batman and Robin to a Prince song. Let that sink in. After not moving at all during rehearsal, Alfonso did make the zip line work (then Tom followed after, which was wonderful to see) and they danced a super fun and super staccato (in a good way) dance that was oodles of fun! Witney’s choreography really shined this week. Erin couldn’t thrust like them, however, due to her spanx. Preach. Two 9s, from Len and Julianne, and two 10s.

Bethany and Derek finished out the night with a salsa in the style of Lucy and Ricky. They danced completely on a kitchen set, which was a cute touch, but suppressed the craziness this dance could’ve had. It was a fun number, it was a strong number, but it wasn’t a perfect score number. Three 9s and a 10 from Bruno.

The dance offs happened super-fast and were rather pointless, even though the winner of each duel received 3 extra points to their score. Alfonso vs. Lea had them dance the jive, where Alfonso swept the panel and received the point boost. Sadie vs. Bethany (Side note, I am so sick of Sadie’s power hip thrusts, it is SO over the top) danced the cha cha, and after a tie from the judges, the rules stated that whoever head judge Len voted for, they received the 3 points, giving Bethany the victory. Michael vs. Tony danced a rumba, and of course Tommy won because duh.

Michael and Emma were finally sent home.

Thoughts on the night?! Let me know!
