Walt Disney Studios has announced their film release schedule, including the recently acquired Fox film studio, for everything currently slated from now through 2027.
- On of the most notable things on the schedule is a lack of Star Wars films in 2020 and 2021. This means that Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker will be the last Star Wars film we see until December 2022.
- Interestingly enough, Star Wars and Avatar films will alternate years, with Avatar 2,3,4 and 5 set to release on odd-numbered years beginning in 2021 while currently untitled Star Wars films will release in even-numbered years starting in 2022.
- As far as changes made to this year’s schedule, Artemis Fowl was pushed back from August all the way to May 2020.
- Fox’s X-Men spinoff New Mutants was also pushed back from August to April 2020 while Gambit was removed from the schedule altogether.
- While we’re on the Marvel front, after Spider-Man: Far From Home closes out phase 3 of the MCU, we won’t see the next installment until May 1, 2020.
- There will only be two MCU films in 2020, but 2021 and 2022 will each see three films from the popular franchise.
