Academy Award winner Olivia Colman is in negotiations to star in the upcoming collaboration between Sam Mendes and Searchlight Pictures, Empire of Light, according to Deadline.

- Searchlight Pictures and Sam Mendes have teamed up on his next project, Empire of Light, and they’re reportedly in negotiations with Oscar-Winner Olivia Colman to star.
- Empire of Light will also mark the first film by Sam Mendes since his Oscar nominated 1917, and will see the director pair up again with Cinematographer Roger Deakins, who won an Oscar for his work on that film.
- With a script penned by Mendes, Empire of Light is a love story set in and around a beautiful old cinema on the South Coast of England in the 1980s.
- Mendes’ last film, 1917, was a hit at the box office grossing $384 million at the worldwide box office, including $159 million domestic, and also garnered 10 Oscar nominations, including one for Mendes.
- Colman won her first Oscar for Searchlight’s The Favourite, and continues to rack up honors. She most recently earned several award nominations for the most recent season of The Crown including a SAG and also has earned high praise for performance in The Father, including an Oscar nomination for best supporting actress.
