The changes at the World Famous Jungle Cruise in Walt Disney World continue to take shape, and even include some blatant references to a fan-favorite that no longer exists from the former Pleasure Island.
What’s Happening:
- Earlier this year, it was a headline event when Disney announced that the Jungle Cruise attraction at Disneyland and Walt Disney World would undergo some story changes to remove some outdated cultural elements, as well as introduce new characters and humor into the 65+ year old attraction.
- While Disneyland had ample time to get the changes installed during the closure of the park caused by the global COVID-19 pandemic, reopening with most changes in place on July 16th, Walt Disney World has kept their version of the attraction open and continues to install new scenes and details as days go by.
- Today, we went and noticed a few more of these changes, namely animatronic monkeys on crates, and a new boat scene featuring more of the rambunctious creatures.
- We also noticed a new reference to Ziploc bags in the queue. Visitors may recall a time not too long ago where Ziploc offered specially-themed Ziploc bags to help guests keep their valuables dry while boarding Splash Mountain. We did not see anything special like that at the Jungle Cruise, aside from a little bit of product placement.
- Our favorite detail is a new paint job and the back half of the plane that appears to have crash landed in the jungle, advertising that the plane belongs to “The Amazing Hathaway Browne,” the debonair pilot who was seen in the legendary (and tragically closed) Adventurer’s Club of Pleasure Island.
- This makes sense as all of the new story changes also tie the Jungle Cruise attraction deeper into the lore of the Society of Explorers and Adventurers (SEA), many of whom are also from the story of the Adventurer’s Club.
