During ABC’s TCA appearance yesterday, ABC Entertainment president Channing Dungey revealed that she’s interested in bringing another Marvel series to the network and is also in the early stages of courting an 11th season of their hit comedy Modern Family.
More Marvel
- As Deadline reports, Dungey not only said that she doesn’t necessarily view the upcoming sixth season of Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. as its last but also suggested the network is working to develop another Marvel series.
- She said, “In terms of Marvel, we have some things that we are in discussions with them right now that we are in development.”
- Although she declined to offer any specifics, Dungey added that she’s “very excited about it.”
- The tease is notable as the last Marvel series to arrive on ABC (Inhumans) only lasted one season.
- Additionally, there’s been a presumption among observers that future Marvel series would likely debut on Disney’s upcoming streaming service as opposed to network television.
Modern Family
- Meanwhile, Dungey also said she’s working on greenlighting an 11th season of Modern Family.
- Speaking at TCA, Dungey said, “There are conversations ongoing. I think that there is a sense that we all would like to do one more season if we can find a way for a deal that makes sense. This current season is the last season that we have the cast, so if we are to do another season there are more deals to be made, and we are trying to work through all that.”
- Today, show co-creator Christopher Lloyd responded, saying of an 11th season, “We are very open to it. We have expressed that to ABC. I think it’s a complicated discussion, and that discussion is taking place.”
- Incidentally, Modern Family is produced by 20th Century Fox television, which will soon become part of the Walt Disney Company is the planned acquisition of Fox assets closes.
- Despite that reality, Dungey says discussions have been “business as usual,” adding that 20th TV has been “very aggressive out of the gate.”
- Modern Family is currently heading into its 10th season after receiving a two-season renewal back in 2017.
