At long last, Ewan McGregor’s Obi-Wan Kenobi could be returning to the screen. The small screen that is. The actor is reportedly in talks for the role of the Jedi master in a potential Disney+ series.
What’s happening:
- Star Wars fans everywhere can cautiously embrace the hope that Obi Wan Kenobi’s story isn’t over yet.
- According to Deadline, Ewan McGregor is reportedly in talks to resume carrying the mantle of the Jedi master for a future series for Disney+.
- McGregor originated the role of young Kenobi in the prequel trilogy which included:
- The Phantom Menace
- Attack of the Clones
- Revenge of the Sith
- At this time details about the series haven’t been revealed.
But what about the feature film?:
- Back in 2017, it was reported that Lucasfilm was in the process of developing a standalone Obi Wan Kenobi film with McGregor to star.
- After the less than stellar box office release of Solo: A Star Wars Story, rumor was Lucasfilm was putting future spinoff films (aside from the announced Rian Johnson and Benioff/Weiss trilogies) on hold.
- While the studio denied that was the case, news surrounding future releases has been nearly non existent.
- Deadline notes that the feature length project has transformed into this potential Disney+ Kenobi series.
- Should things progress as fans hope the Kenobi series would be the third live-action Lucasfilm project created for Disney+ following:
- Jon Favreau’s The Mandalorian
- Untitled Cassian Andor Series
Did you know:
- Long before McGregor took over the role, Alec Guinness originated the character in the first Star Wars trilogy appearing in:
- Star Wars: A New Hope
- The Empire Strikes Back
- Return of the Jedi
ICYMI:
- The Skywalker Saga is about to come to a close with the final chapter The Rise of Skywalker arriving in theaters on December 20th.
- All Star Wars films will be available on Disney+ which launches in North America on November 12.
