Gather the family for Disney movies during El Capitan’s Fall Family Favorites. From September 6 through October 13 the theatre will host special screenings and events centered around favorite Disney films that are perfect for the season.
What’s happening:
- The legendary El Capitan Theatre celebrates the spirit of Fall this September and October with four Fall Family Favorites:
- Tarzan
- The Nightmare Before Christmas
- Hocus Pocus
- Coco
- Along with showing the films, on October 1st – 7th El Capitan will screen three new shorts that are part of Pixar’s SparkShorts program:
- “Float”
- “Wind”
- “Loop”

September 6 – 8
- 20th Anniversary of Disney’s Tarzan, which features Meet & Greets with Terk before the movie.
September 12 – 25
- Tim Burton’s The Nightmare Before Christmas shown in 3D with interactive 4D sensory effects (what happens in the movie will happen to you in the theatre; wind, fog, snow and more).
- Producer, Don Hahn and Author, Dave Bossert will introduce the movie at the Special Opening Night show 7:00pm on September 12th.
September 26 – October 7
- Disney’s Hocus Pocus will be shown with photo opportunities before and after the show, and a lower lounge display. Between the dates of October 1st– 7th El Capitan Theatre will also be showing three all new short films from Pixar Animation Studios’ SparkShorts program – “Float”, “Wind” & “Loop” – following each showtime of Hocus Pocus.
- All Guests must purchase a valid ticket to enter theatre even if only coming to watch the SparkShorts short films.
October 10 – 13:
- Disney•Pixar’s Coco will conclude the Fall Family Favorites with performances by Mariachi Divas, live on stage, along with Ballet Folklórico de Los Ángeles as Guests enter the theatre before every screening of Coco.

Tiny Tot Tuesday:
- The El Capitan Theatre will also host a very special Tiny Tot Tuesday for the first show every Tuesday during the run of all four Fall Family Favorites.
- During these special screenings, parents and small children may enjoy the movie in a tot-friendly way—with lights dimmed rather than out and reduced sound levels.
- For Tim Burton’s The Nightmare Before Christmas, parents and small children can enjoy the movie in a tot-friendly way shown in 2D with no added effects.

Tarzan:
- Celebrating its 20th anniversary this year, Disney’s Tarzan tells the heartwarming tale of a shipwrecked baby raised by apes. With his wisecracking ape buddy Terk and neurotic elephant pal Tantor, Tarzan learns to survive in the animal kingdom. His "Two Worlds" collide with the arrival of humans, forcing Tarzan to choose between a "civilized" life with the beautiful Jane and the life he knows and loves with his gorilla family.
The Nightmare Before Christmas:
- First released in 1993, Tim Burton’s The Nightmare Before Christmas was directed by Henry Selick (James and the Giant Peach), and based on a story and characters by Tim Burton. The film follows the earnest-but-misguided adventures of Jack Skellington, Halloween Town’s beloved Pumpkin King, as he attempts to take over the Christmas holiday. Against the advice of Sally, a lonely rag doll who has feelings for him, Jack enlists three mischievous trick-or-treaters – Lock, Shock, and Barrel – to help him kidnap Santa Claus. Jack eventually realizes his mistake but has to contend with the evil Oogie Boogie before he can make things right and restore the Christmas holiday.
Hocus Pocus:
- You're in for a devil of a time when three outlandishly wild witches – Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker, and Kathy Najimy return from 17th-century Salem after they're accidentally conjured up by some unsuspecting pranksters! It's a night full of zany fun and comic chaos once the tricky 300-year-old trio sets out to cast a spell on the town and reclaim their youth – but first they must get their act together and outwit three kids and a talking cat!
Spark Shorts:
- In “Float”, a father discovers that his son is different from other kids in the most unusual way. To keep them both safe from judgment, Dad covers him and keeps him out of sight—but when his son’s ability becomes public, Dad must decide whether to run and hide or to accept his son as he is. Directed by Bobby Rubio, and Produced by Krissy Cababa.
- Set in a world of magical realism, “Wind” sees a grandmother and her grandson trapped deep down an endless chasm, scavenging debris that surrounds them to realize their dream of escaping to a better life. Directed by Edwin Chang, and Produced by Jesus Martinez.
- In “Loop”, two kids at canoe camp find themselves adrift on a lake, unable to move forward until they find a new way to connect and see the world through each other’s eyes. This film breaks new ground by featuring Pixar’s first non-verbal autistic character. Directed by Erica Milsom, and Produced by Krissy Cababa and Michael Warch.
Coco:
- Despite his family's generations-old ban on music, young Miguel dreams of becoming an accomplished musician like his idol Ernesto de la Cruz. Desperate to prove his talent, Miguel finds himself in the stunning and colorful Land of the Dead. After meeting a charming trickster named Héctor, the two new friends embark on an extraordinary journey to unlock the real story behind Miguel's family history.
