FX is building an impressive slate of non-fiction series, including docuseries based on rap legend Tupac Shakur, LGBTQ rights and the Zodiac Killer, according to Deadline.
- Allen Hughes will direct Outlaw: The Saga of Afeni and Tupac Shakur, a five-part series looking at the rapper and his mother.
- The series will be told through the eyes of the people who knew them best, and will explore their message of freedom, equality, persecution and justice.
- Pride, a six-part docuseries on the fight for LGBTQ civil rights in America, will be produced by Christine Vachon’s Killer Films and Refinery 29.
- Each episode will be directed by a different LGBTQ director and will be exec produced by Vachon, Sydney Foos of Killer Films, and Refinery29’s Amy Emmerich, Stone Roberts and Alex Stapleton.
- Based on Gary Stewart’s book of the same name, The Most Dangerous Animal of All will explore one man’s search for the father who abandoned him, only to find that he is likely the Zodiac killer, one of the most infamous killers in American history.
- The four-part series is produced by Ross Dinerstein and directed by Kief Davidson.
- A Wilderness of Error, a six-part series from Blumhouse Television, follows Army Surgeon Jeffrey MacDonald, who is sent to prison for killing his family, but who may be innocent.
- Marc Smerling will direct and executive produce alongside Blumhouse Television Wilshire Studios with Jason Blum, Marci Wiseman, Jeremy Gold, Mary Lisio, Dawn Olmstead, Jessica Grimshaw, Rachel Horovitz and Michael Jackson.
- Hip Hop Untold will be a six-part series on the power brokers who operate from the shadows of hip hop.
- The series will be produced by Lightbox with Jonathan Chinn, Simon Chinn, Eugene “Big U” Henley, Jimmy Chriss, Malcolm Spellman, Douglas Banker and Rashidi Natara Harper executive producing.
- In addition to those five new docuseries, FX will launch a feature-length documentary titled Women in Comedy.
- The doc will examine the changing landscape for women in stand-up through interviews and explore the form in the post #MeToo world.
- Ross Dinerstein, Jim Serpico and Andrea Nevins will executive produce, with Jessica Kirson also producing.
