New York Comic Con 2021 got started today and National Geographic Explorers came together to discuss the upcoming Disney+ series Welcome to Earth.
- The panel features:
- Diva Amon: Marine biologist and National Geographic Explorer
- Dwayne Fields: Polar expeditionist
- Albert Lin: Engineer and National Geographic Explorer
- Erik Weihenmayer: Mountaineer
- The panel gushed over the spirit and resolve of Will Smith, who joins them in the series by exploring some of the most dangerous natural locations on Earth.
- Fields tells a story about getting Smith in a kayak and then seeing his safety and security team in the water after capsizing. He says Smith’s ability to push past fear was incredible:
- “He almost takes a step back, takes a breath and says ‘I’m about to do this, get your mind right and let’s go.’ And that level of focus, I’m not blowing smoke or anything, that level of focus, it’s real and he’s definitely, definitely got it.”
- Amon was asked what she wants audiences to take away from this series:
- “I’m hoping that people take away that the planet Earth is still full of places that we know so little about. That it is home to a diversity of life that absolutely takes our breath away.”
- Welcome to Earth is set to premiere on Disney+ this December.
