Walt Disney World Reopening
After being closed for nearly four months, Walt Disney World is excited to welcome guests back to their theme parks and resorts. The Resort recently presented their phased reopening plans which were approved by Orange County officials and Florida Governor Ron DeSantis. Walt Disney World reopened all Disney Vacation Club Resorts and Fort Wilderness Resort and Campground to guests on June 22; Magic Kingdom and Animal Kingdom parks on July 11 and EPCOT and Hollywood Studios on July 15. Below is a list of their updated health and safety guidelines that guests, Cast Members, and Operating Participants will be required to follow during their visit.
Guidelines, Restrictions, and Safety Measures
The Most Magical Place on Earth will be welcoming guests home in the coming weeks and we can’t wait! While it’s exciting to know that Disney attractions and delicious Mickey shaped foods are things we’ll be experiencing later this year, the reopening plan comes with new health and safety guidelines designed to protect all guests and Cast Members. From face coverings and temperature checks, to elevated cleaning standards, there are several new measures guests can expect to encounter on their next visit to Walt Disney World.
Walt Disney World has updated their safety measures per CDC guidelines including enhanced sanitation procedures, distance spacing, and screening. Disney is asking that all guests and cast members comply with following to be allowed to visit the Resorts and Parks:
- Face covering required– Guests 2 years of age and older are required to wear a face covering during their visit. Disney recently updated their face covering policy with examples of acceptable masks.
- Temperature check required –Temperature checks will be required upon arrival, and guests with a temperature of 100.4°F degrees or greater will not be admitted.
- Wash hands often – Wash your hands with soap and water often for at least 20 seconds.
- Social distancing – Practice social distancing and keep at least 6 feet (2 meters) between your travel party and others.
- Floor markings – When present, please stand on the floor markings until the group in front of you moves forward.
- Use hand sanitizer when required – At select locations including prior to boarding ride vehicles, guests will be required to use hand sanitizer.
In addition to face coverings and temperature checks, guests can expect the following when they visit Walt Disney World
- Managed and reduced daily park attendance
- Managed and reduced attraction ridership, show attendance and restaurant seating. Some areas and events may remain closed for now.
- Increased cleaning and disinfection of food locations, ride vehicles, restrooms and other frequent “touch points” that go beyond Disney’s cleaning procedures
- Social distancing practices at all locations through the parks, within attractions and queues and at restaurants
- Contactless payments (MagicBands, ApplePay, GooglePay, NFC Credit Card) and “no touch” policies where possible
Walt Disney World Parks
Walt Disney World reopened their parks on the following dates:
July 11, 2020:
July 15, 2020:
The resort has introduced a new Disney Park Pass system for guests and Annual Passholders to select the days on which they’ll visit the parks. Disney has temporarily paused new ticket sales and hotel reservations to allow those with existing reservations and Annual Passholders the opportunity to secure their entry times before opening to the general public.
- Guests with existing tickets will need to make a reservation for park entry in advance
- Annual Passholders will be able to make reservation requests in phases before new tickets are sold
Due to capacity restrictions as part of Disney’s phased reopening and to help guests plan for a successful visit, the resort is introducing the Disney Park Pass system.
- All Guests with valid admission will be required to make a reservation in advance for each park entry using this new online tool.
- To enter a park, both a park reservation AND valid admission for the same park on the same date are required for each person in the party ages 3 and up (limit one park per day).
- The Disney Park Pass system will be available soon to select guests. Booking dates vary based on plans:
- Beginning June 22, 2020, Disney Resort and other select hotel guests with valid theme park admission can make reservations.
- Beginning June 26, 2020, Annual Passholders without a Resort stay can make reservations.
- Beginning June 28, 2020, existing ticket holders can make reservations.
- Park reservations will be available through September 26, 2021, based on Resort stay and ticket eligibility or ticket eligibility window.
- Guests with a room-only reservation at a Disney Resort or other select hotel for a stay in 2021, should call the Disney Reservation Center or their travel professional beginning on June 24 to upgrade to a vacation package with tickets—and then make theme park reservations.
Park Entry:
- During the limited capacity period, it may be difficult for Annual Passholders to get park reservations to visit on certain dates.
- All Annual Passholders are eligible to make Theme Park reservations for up to 3 days at a time via the Disney Park Pass.
- Annual Passholders staying at select Disney Resort or other select hotels with valid Theme Park admission are eligible to make Theme Park reservations for their entire Resort length of stay.
- All reservations are subject to availability and applicable pass blockout dates.
AP Reopening Previews:
- Passholders will have the opportunity to register for a special preview at Magic Kingdom park or Disney’s Animal Kingdom theme park on July 9 or 10.
- Email invitations with registration details will be sent out soon. Previews apply to the following passes:

Pass Benefits:
- Some pass benefits and features will not be available during periods of limited capacity.
- Park experiences and offerings will be modified and subject to limited availability or even closure (ie Water Parks).
- Annual passes are subject to blockout dates. Guests should ensure their pass type is valid for park entry prior to making a park reservation.

Water Parks
Walt Disney World’s two water parks, Typhoon Lagoon and Blizzard Beach will not be included in Disney’s first reopening phase. Both locations will remain closed for the time being and Disney has not indicated when this will change.
Disney Springs
Disney Springs has already begun its phased reopening. Guests will need to follow Disney’s health and safety guidelines which include wearing facial coverings at all times and have their temperature check before being allowed entry. For more more information, visit our Disney Springs Reopening guide page. Select locations are open to guests, however they are operating at limited capacity and with limited hours.
