Guests visiting Universal Studios Florida can celebrate 50 years of Saturday Night Live with a new display and special merchandise in the park’s faux 30 Rockefeller Center, which houses the attraction, Race Through New York Starring Jimmy Fallon.
The new display and merchandise take over the the gift shop at the exit of the attraction, and those visiting can see displays celebrating characters from favorite SNL sketches over the last 50 years, including costume pieces from a famous latter-day sketch – “Haunted Elevator” – which is known for the debut of Tom Hanks’ “David S. Pumpkins” character.
Banners around the store also feature stylized imagery of other favorite characters, including Gene Frenkel (“More Cowbell”), the Spartan Cheerleaders, Tim Meadows’ “Ladies Man,” Chris Farley’s Inspirational Speaker Matt Foley (“Van Down by the River”), and more.
These characters also are featured on a number of pieces of merchandise for sale in the store, including apparel, magnets, glassware, and more. If you’re just a fan of the show and don’t want the sketch characters on your merch, items featuring just the SNL logo or the SNL logo accompanied by the 50th emblem, celebrating the half-century of the culturally iconic program.
Universal Studios Florida has not shared how long this special offering will take over the location, so be sure to check on your arrival. A live television special celebrating SNL’s 50th anniversary will be taking place in mid-February, so we speculate that it will be at least through that.
