Disney will release The Collected Works of Hayao Miyazaki in a Blu-Ray box set on November 17th as an Amazon.com exclusive. The box set will feature 11 of the master animation director’s films as well as a bonus disc with exclusive content and a book. The following films are included in the set:
- Lupin III: The Castle of Cagliostro (1979)
- Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind (1984)
- Laputa: Castle in the Sky (1986)
- My Neighbor Totoro (1988)
- Kiki’s Delivery Service (1989)
- Porco Rosso (1992)
- Princess Mononoke (1997)
- Spirited Away (2001)
- Howl’s Moving Castle (2004)
- Ponyo (2008)
- The Wind Rises (2013)
The exclusive bonus disc will feature a five-minute pilot for an unproduced television series from 1972 called Yuki no Taiyō that Miyazaki made by himself. Three episodes of an animated series called Akado Suzunosuke (Little Samurai) that were storyboarded by Miyazaki (episodes 26, 27, and 41) and a recording of Miyazaki’s retirement press conference round out the disc. The book included with the set is called The Great Dichotomy: Looking at the Works of Hayao Miyazaki by Tomohiro Michiyama.
The animated music video On Your Mark is not included with this release. A similar box set was released in Japan last year and while the music video was absent there as well, Studio Ghibli corrected the error by mailing it on a separate disc to fans who purchased the set.
The set is not yet available for preorder and Disney hasn’t released pricing information.
