Funko is celebrating the 40th anniversary of the original Star Wars film with the newest crate from the subscription service, Smuggler’s Bounty. Using a larger than normal box, there’s sure to be some exceptional goodies inside. This one features Princess Leia on the exterior in her original iconic buns look.
The patch features Luke Skywalker in his rebel helmet with the words “40th Anniversary” on the boarder, while the pin represents Wookies everywhere with Chewbacca.
The first item out of the box is a Pop! Home item, salt & pepper shakers themed to Han Solo and Greedo. Neither of them have their weapons drawn yet, so you don’t have to fight over who shot first. But it’s up to you to decide which will season your dish first!
In lieu of a cool 40th Anniversary t-shirt, Funko has instead opted for… arm sweatbands. I can’t overstate my disappointment with this item enough… arm… sweatbands… I would have been less offended by finding Jar Jar in this 40th Anniversary box. Well, maybe I wouldn’t go that far, but it’s close. Arm sweatbands, everybody.
Last, but definitely not least, comes the largest item in the crate so far, Luke Skywalker bobblehead vinyl with Speeder. The box is ginormous!
Photos of it in the box don’t do it justice. My favorite aspect of this piece are the clear stilts it sits on so that it appears at first glance to be hovering. My only disappoint lies with the fact that it’s a bobblehead. Had they gone with a hinged neck instead, you could angle it on a desk to make sure Luke is looking where you want. Since the figure is much longer than it is wide, the ideal way to display him is at an angle.
This appears to be the end of this crate, although I’m not convinced. Our box was missing the card that typically gives you more information about each item. In the past when a card has been missing, an item has been missing as well. And while these items are fairly large, there did appear to be some extra space in the box (they’re usually stuffed to capacity). At any rate, the sins of the arm sweatbands are forgiven with the Luke with Speeder figure, which in my opinion is the best Star Wars figure they’ve ever done. Until next time, may the force be with you.
