In honor of the 10th Anniversary of the Ryman Program for Young Artists, Disneyland has joined together with the Ryman-Caroll Foundation to create an event htat will explore the history and art created by Herbert Ryman and artists associated with the foundation.

A Special Breakfast & "History Tour of Disneyland" Tour will take place on each of the following dates and will feature the following VIP Tour Guides

Saturday, September 23rd

Marty Sklar
Marty Sklar is the current vice-chairman of Walt Disney Imagineering. He worked on many Disney projects through the years including the New York World's Fair.  Sklar began his career at Disney working for a month at Disneyland in 1955.

X. Atencio

X. Atencio
X. Atencio is most known for writing the lyrics for Yo-Yo, Yo-Ho, A Pirates Life For Me and Grim Grinning Ghosts. He also worked on Adventure Thru Inner Space and Primeval World. Atencio began his career at Disney as an assistant animator on Fantasia. He was named a Disney Legend in 1996.

Maggie Irvine Elliot
Maggie Irvine-Elliot is a former senior executive at Walt Disney Imagineering.

Saturday, September 30th

Blaine Gibson
Blaine Gibson headed the sculpture department at WED and is responsible for the heads of most of the Animatronic characters from Pirates, Mr. Lincoln and many other attractions. He also sculpted the Partners statue. Gibson was named a Disney Legend in 1993.

Bob Gurr

Bob Gurr
Bob Gurr is known for designing just about anything at Disneyland with wheels including the Autopia and the omnimover system from Adventure Thru Inner Space and the Haunted Mansion. He also played a big part in the development of Mr. Lincoln. Gurr writes a column for LaughingPlace.com called Designer Times about the early days of Disneyland design, construction and operation.

John Hench

John Hench
Painted the backgrounds for Nutcracker Suite then worked on Cinderella and Alice in Wonderland as well as assisted Salvadore Dali with Destino which was never completed. Hench is best known for the official portraits of Mickey Mouse which he did for Mickey's 25, 50, 60 and 70th birthdays. Hench is a Disney Legend.

Rolly Crump

Rolly Crump
Rolly Crump is known for his kinetic sculptures including the famous Towers of the Four Winds that was the facade for "it's a small world" at the 1964 World's Fair. He also worked on the Enchanted Tiki Room.

Sam McKim

Sam McKim
Sam McKim was a concept artist for Disneyland including "it's a small world", Haunted Mansion and the Carousel of Progress. McKim is best known for the artwork in Great Moments with Mr. Lincoln and the Disneyland souvenir maps. McKim is a Disney Legend.

The Event Will Include

  • Admission into Disneyland Park
  • Special Breakfast at Club 33
  • "History of Disneyland" Tour with Walt Disney Imagineers & Artists
  • Opportunity to order the first major publication of Herbert Ryman artwork, A Brush with Disney (shipping upon availability), signed by Authors & Walt Disney Imagineers Bruce Gordon and David Mumford. Exclusive to this event, a complimentary bookplate will also be signed by the Walt Disney Imagineers & Artists who appear as the VIP Tour Guides.

Each event will take place from 7:00 a.m. to Noon.

A portion of the proceeds from these events will be donated to the Ryman-Carroll Foundation.

Tickets for each event day are $125 per person. Limited to 100 Guests per Event. Tickets will be available beginning Wednesday, August 30, 2000 through Disneyland DelivEARS at (800) 362-4533 or e-mail at [email protected].

Disneyland asks that you bring no personal items to be signed. Merchandise is limited to quantities on hand. No "wish list" will be taken for the event merchandise.

Guests will have the opportunity to pre-order the new book by Bruce Gordon and David Mumford A Brush With Disney about Herb Ryman and his artwork.
